Dr. Jiangang Yao

DR. JINGWEI MENG

Dr. Yao was fascinated with mathematics as a child and started his involvement with mathematical olympiad since then. He won the gold medal with full marks in the 35th International Mathematical Olympiad and got math PhD degree from UC Berkeley. He has been the coach for mathematical olympiad at various levels for 30 years, and has written a few popular mathematical olympiad books in Chinese.

Dr. Meng is currently a faculty member at Indiana University School of Medicine. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in molecular cancer biology from Duke University and a MBA degree in finance and supply chain management from IU Kelley School of Business. He served as a consultant for several US and China firms and, in 2019, secured $3.5 million investments for two healthcare companies. Dr. Meng is also the co-founder of Melody Culture Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization established in 2004. He participated actively in cultural and educational services, including the first Chinese TV program in San Diego, concerts and master classes, summer camps, and systematic business training for teenagers. Since 2018, Dr. Meng has developed a comprehensive suite of business courses and instructed in multiple summer camps and weekend programs across the US.

Introduction to Scientific Visualization

Mr. Hemanth Asirvatham

Hemanth Asirvatham is a student at Harvard University. He was formerly the captain of the Century High School debate team and placed multiple times at statewide competitions. Hemanth attended the Research Science Institute at MIT and was awarded Top 10 presentation. Hemanth is a State AP Scholar, has placed 2nd at the US National Brain Bee, and is a two-time ISEF Finalist. He has led and instructed school teams for Model UN, Science Bowl, and STEM Society. Hemanth recently instructed a Debate 101 summer program with over 150 attendees. In his free time, Hemanth enjoys watching Star Trek (better than Star Wars, obviously), rereading Harry Potter for the 100th time, and beating his friends in Monopoly, Werewolf, or really any other non-physical game.

Ms. Wenjing Wu

Wenjing Wu, CMI is a board-certified medical illustrator. She is the founder of Jingnetics.com, a scientific visualization studio primarily serving the medical and biological research community. Wenjing earned her Master of Arts in Medical and Biological Illustration from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She worked as an in-house medical illustrator at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC for nearly 7 years, before starting her own studio and teaching online scientific illustration courses to researchers and medical professionals. Her illustration and animation work appeared on major research journals, patient education sites, textbook covers, as well as pharmaceutical/medical device advertisements. Wenjing believes it’s a privilege to tell powerful visual stories about great scientific discoveries, and she loves sharing that with everyone she meets.

Leo has competed in many math competitions, including  AMC 8/10 competitions, AIME (3 times), USAJMO,  HMMT (3 times), ARML (2 times),  MMATH (1st place team), PUMAC, Mathcounts, Mathleague and more. He qualified for the USA's Junior Mathematical Olympiad (USAJMO) as an eight-grader. He is an AMC 8 perfect scorer (out of 44 nationwide), and he placed 13th at the November Harvard MIT Math Tournament (HMMT). He was also a two-times Math Kangaroo national champion with perfect scores and a MOEM perfect scorer in 4th grade. He is also a three times New Jersey state champion and national 3rd/5th place in Math League State and National Competition, respectively.  He is currently a TA for the online Art of Sciences AMC 10 class. Aside from math, Leo enjoys to play tennis, chess, and basketball. According to chess ratings, he is almost half as good as Magnus Carlsen. He is also a huge fan of dried mangoes.

Alexis is a freshman at MIT planning on majoring in economics and math. In high school, she participated in math competitions such as AIME, USAJMO, and Math Prize for Girls. She was captain of the Edina High School Math Team and co-captain of the MN All-State Math Team. Her hobbies include reading, listening to music, and playing the violin.
